St. John's purpose is to bring together followers of Jesus Christ in the worship of God. St. John's seeks to make God's will a reality in the lives of all people. St. John's declares itself to be a community of Christians that gathers together in worship and service and strive to practice the principles of the Gospel. As members of the Body of Christ, we acknowledge our responsibilities to:
| (a) | Receive the historic Christian faith as expressed in Word and Statement; | |
| (b) | Make this faith our own; and | |
| (c) | Share this faith with others. Further, believing that the Christian Church in all its many forms and manifestations is the embodiment of the on-going life of Jesus Christ in every place and time, we acknowledge the Church to be of divine origin and thus holy. |
Doctrine and Statement of Faith
The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments shall always have the primary place in the preaching and teaching of this congregation. Additionally, recognizing our roots to be in the traditions of the Reformed Church, the doctrinal positions of the Heidelberg Catechism shall be honored at all times. The articles of faith of this congregation shall be the Statement of Faith as adopted by the Second General Synod of the United Church of Christ in 1957, namely:
We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, Father of the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father, and to whose deed we testify:
He calls the worlds into being, creates man in his own image and set before us the ways of life and death.
He seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin.
He judges men and nations by his righteousness will declared through prophets and apostles.
In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Lord, He has come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the whole creation to its Creator
He bestows upon us His Holy Spirit creating and renewing the Church of Jesus Christ binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues and races
He calls us into his Church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship to be his servants in the service of men to proclaim the gospel of the world and resist the powers of evil to share in Christ's baptism and eat at this table
He promises to all who trust him forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace courage in the struggle for justice and peace his presence in trail and rejoicing And eternal life in his kingdom which has no end
Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto him.
