Outreach Ministry's goal is to support mission locally, nationally, in our wider UCC church goals and vision, and globally.  There are opportunities to participate both directly and indirectly in our outreach efforts.  Through reaching out to others and needs in our community and beyond, we hope to fulfill the commandment to love and to serve others as modeled for us in the life of Christ and in God's grace and care extended to all.

CROP WALK FAYETTEVILLE 2011

Haiti is one part of the world where CROP Hunger Walks are making a big difference.  In the aftermath of the killer earthquake, Church World Services was there with much-needed emergency assistance.  With the recovery effort in full swing, CWS is helping families and communities to rebuild homes, food supplies and livelihoods.

On this Sunday afternoon at 1 pm, the Norlo CROP Hunger Walk will be held to show our love and active concern for neighbors in need near and far.  We will be raising awareness and funds to change the world in real and measurable ways - digging wells that will bring clean water to villagges; providing seeds and tools so that people can grow their own food; helping communities and families rebuild after disaster.  Whether it's responding to flood and tornado damage in parts of the U.S., or helping to rebuild earthquake-damaged homes in Haiti, CROP Hunger Walks are making a difference.

CROP Hunger Walk funds will benefit the overall work and ministry of Church World Service - working around the world to help those in need help themselves through refugee assistance, self-help development programs, advocacy, and disaster relief.  And, it's important to note that 25 percent of what we raise will help community agencies in their important work here in Chambersburg.

Please join us and/or support a walker by making a donation to CROP today.

Please contact John Bryner at 496-1586 or

We all want to see positive change in our world and community,

let's begin by "being the change we want to see"!

Our mission opportunities are reflected in the following list:

Local Outreach Missions St. John's Supports:

Additionally, each year at the Lenten season, we support a major mission effort. Much of this effort is to support mission in another part of the world.  Funds given in recent years in this effort support:

      1)  Individuals affiliated with a mission organization serving in another culture in providing expertise in a given profession that enhances the living for that community, or,

      2)  Support to education or improved living conditions for villages in areas such as Peru.

There is ample opportunity at St. John's for individuals to serve in outreach in a hands-on approach and/or financial support to the varied needs that exist in our world.

With our donations, the water system was able to be built along with education on the value of drinking clean water.  Each child received their on cup and each family receives a new 16-liter water bucket for daily refill at the water plant.  This project was through the Detroit Zoological Society.
