St. John's Nursery School began in 1970. Since that time, hundreds of young children have had their first formal educational experience in the nurturing environment of St. John's Nursery School. St. John's Nursery School is a non-sectarian school providing morning classes for children 2 years to 5 years of age.  St. John's Nursery School is currently preparing for our 2011-2012 school year.

This unique class gives your child an opportunity to experience preschool independently.  We offer an environment that enhances early learning, builds socialization skills, and increases confidence and independence.

Classes are limited to 16 children and are staffed by a Teacher and a Teacher's Assistant. Children must be independent with bathroom needs and meet age requirements by September first of the school year.

The purpose of St. John's Nursery School is to provide an organized learning experience for children to grow and learn physically, socially, and academically. We provide a loving atmosphere which promotes sharing and caring for others. St. John's Nursery School is an educational outreach ministry of St. John's Church and models Christian values and tolerance.

Although simple prayers will be shared, the program is not intended to be a religious educational program. Parents desiring formal religious education for their children are encouraged to explore Sunday church school programs.

The St. John's Nursery School's curriculum reflects the Early Childhood Standards developed by the PA Department of Education and Public Welfare. In addition, St. John's Nursery School Staff are participating members of the Chambersburg Area School District's Early Childhood Consortium.

The curriculum at St. John's Nursery School is coordinated with and compliments the Chambersburg Area School District's Kindergarten program and the Pennsylvania State Standards for Preschool Education. Key objectives are obtained through stories, reading, writing, center time, music games, art, play and both independent and group activities.

Play is a vehicle through which children build knowledge. Children need safe environments where they can practice newly acquired skills and learn new information. Our teachers support children's learning opportunities by providing meaningful, theme related experiences to engage their interests, abilities and culture.
